This year my daughter will be showing sheep and goats. Can I put all of them in the same pin?

Should be able to, but will need to feed separately as they will have different rations and amounts fed.

Yes, sheep and goats get along well though will need to be fed separately as Pete said. Goats require copper in their ration in amounts that are toxic to sheep. So be sure that the lamb does not have access to the goat's feed. Use salt that is designed for sheep.

Ok thanks. We feed the sheep in seperate pins from each other so it will be so much easier to build a couple of feed pins rather than a whole seperate dry lot. Since you brought up salt do we still need to introduce salt on top of the feed supplements they get every day?

It is good to keep a good general mineral free choice except about the 2 weeks before a show.

Pete, why do you pull the mineral out a few weeks before your intended show?

That was suggested by JB Massey at camp a few years ago. It is intended to lower their water intake to reduce water belly look.

Since we started wet feeding they do not have near the belly they used to. Does someone make a general salt that we can use that will work for the sheep and goats?

Our feed store sells a loose sheep salt.

EmsoffLambs what is the difference between loose livestock salt and loose sheep salt?

I wouldn't even be able to guess what's in each different brand of salt. Some "livestock" feeds are for all livestock EXCEPT sheep (due to the copper content) while others leave out the copper and are for sheep too. You'd have to read the label to know for sure. But if I were feeding it to sheep, I'd make sure it's labeled specifically for sheep with no added copper.
