| | Sold out of ewe lambs, had to dig into the keeper pen... at least thats what she said a week before Sedalia!
Every year we allow the kids to pick from a list of ewe lambs we want to add back to our flock. Then mom and dad each pick one additional on top of the kids showstring. This year "someone" decided we should offer them for sale a week before Sedalia and offer free delivery since we sold out of ewe lambs rather quickly. Much to my dismay, I somehow agreed to let her offer these keepers for sale.
My keeper ewe lamb pick for the year is 1208...

Then we have a nice set of march lambs available. These are pictured with about 3 weeks of wool.

| | Lambs aside, I just want to say I think you've done a great job of raising some kids ;-).
Can't wait to meet them someday-- hopefully I'll get to Sedalia or maybe even swing by when I'm down in AR visiting family.

| | Christiancowgirl, thanks for the kind words. We are fortunate to be able to surround our kids with other fantastic kids and families so that helps keep them in check. The 4H and livestock showing has been the best thing ever happened to us as a family.
OG, wife and kids are on their way to a wedding tomorrow and they get back just in time for us to leave for Sedalia next week. We came up with the idea to post pictures and offer sedalia delivery yesterday afternoon so we just rushed through getting pictures before the sun went down. Anything that's left when we get back from Sedalia will get sheared and better pictures taken.

| | Darren..The pictures above would work great..They are 99.9 % better than most pictures submitted for the contest...OG..Hey, I hope you guys have a great time in Sedalia..I remember my first trip..Calvin(my AST. teaching partner) and I arrived in Sedalia around 2:30AM..I was so keyed up sleep was not on my mind(this was around 82) I told Calvin, 'Lets head to the fairgrounds as I'm anxious to see the sheep." At that time of the day we had the barn to ourselves...This must have still been in the hey day of Frame Sheep..most of those monsters that were standing were way taller than the panel railings...Big disappointment!..However, we were back at the barn by 8:00AM and I started finding the wether sires which I was interested in. I had arranged with my PCA loan officer(he was my former FFA Chapter pres) to borrow around 2,000. the amount i was told that would be needed to get a good wether sire prospect..Calvin and I found 8 hd. that we thought would fit my needs..When the sale time arrived on Sat. AM I was fit to be tied...nervous doesn't describe my feelings...what if I don't get one of the 8...Darren, the bidding started and I started raising my hand...at the end of the day I had raised my hand successfully 6 times...Went up to buy 1 for around 2 grand, ended up buying 6 for 16 grand(hey, he was my former FFA Pres. I figured he would okay the loan..besides I had a PCA draft to pay my purchases with)..Darren..that's why they refer to it as a auction sale...Turns out one of the best decesions I ever made because it sure enabled me to infuse some great genetics into my growing flock at the very beginning...OG

| | OG, our first trip in 2009 we bought much more than we budgeted. Chalked it up to excitement and spent the month of July in my woodshop working many of nights to pay that bill off. Had a great time and kids enjoyed bidding on the ewe lambs they won so it was all worth it. Funniest part was I had to translate the bid amounts for the 8 year old. He just kept asking "how much is she at?" because he had a hard time understanding the auctioneer. Then after he won he would ask how much he bought her for. Last year he figured out to know what he is ABOUT to pay if he bids rather than bid it up and hope mom and dad will cover him.

| | Daren and all,
Donnie and I plan to come to on Friday and Saturday to watch. We're going to pickup a couple of sheep we bought so you can all tell me how smart I'm not if you want to check them out. Seeing as we've spent the sheep buying budget, it's going to be just as social event for us.
Daren, I think those pictures show a nice program in place and if the pictures are good enough to sell the sheep I can't imagine that they aren't good enough for the OLSS.
We're kind of in the opposite mode in our program. Donnie told me yesterday by end of this year 65% of our ewes will be born in 2011 or 2012.

| | Sheep budget down for us too. Picking up a ram lamb and probably some vendor stuff. Couple breeders we wanted to look closer at their program and see if we like but otherwise a social visit as well.

| | Ryan, I wish I could have made the trip. We have always been interested in your program and Dually. Its good to see a young man like yourself with focus and determination to put together a complete program as you have done. Kids are fully capable of evaluating sheep so I'll have to settle for their word if the ram would work well here in Arkansas.
