If you leave it on until the testicles completely shrink and dry up, many times, depending on the age of lamb at banding and climate where you live, the scrotum will swell in size, burst and cause fly strike resulting in maggot infestation...by cutting all off the 2nd day after banding you will eliminate this possibility..just be sure you cut the scrotum off about one inch below the banding band...the reason for leaving the band on is in the very remote possibility the lamb had an inguinal hernia the band will hold the hernia contents in the abdomen and they will not fall through the scrotal opening...it would give you time to either fix the hernia yourself(experienced) or, take the lamb to a vet(inexperienced)...OG
