| | Check her temperature. Will she eat the hay?

| | ok she is running a fever it is 104.5 what do you suggest i give her. it is 78 degrees out here today with alot of humidity.she is in a pen by herself because she eats a different kind of feed than my other lambs could that be it just stress of being by herself? my other lambs are breathing hard but do not have temps. my dad wants to know if i could just give her a regular asprin or something because everything around here is closed to get any meds. or is it that seriouse?

| | No aspirin. She needs antibiotic treatment. My guess would be she's got pneumonia. Nuflor is the drug of choice for this. You have to get it from your vet.

| | ok well i dont know if this has anything to do with it but we have just started changing her feed from honor showchow starter to grower and she is getting the eggs and honey show shake dont know if that has anything to do with it but just wanted to put it out there just in case it does and it will be monday before we can call the vet is there anything i can do in the meantime

| | Pneumonia can progress very quickly. If you wait until Monday, she may be dead by then. Try to ge a hold of your vet and get some Nuflor. If you can't get that, at the very least, give her a good dose of penecillin (5 cc for a young lamb). The condition is likely caused by the combination of all the stress: new environment, new feed, rapid weather changes. In addition to the penicillin, stop with the shake, take away the feed, and offer her just grass and/or alfalfa hay until she's eating that well. The feed and shake will just further complicate an already disturbed digestive tract. Once he fever has been gone for a couple days, you can begin SLOWLY increasing her feed, taking a week to ten days to get her back on full feed.

| | ok thanks for all the info. i went out to the barn just a few minutes ago and she was eating with the rest of them i turned her in with the rest of my lambs to cut down on the stress a bit and she started eating just fine.(the only difference in the feed is that she gets the champion drive in her feed) i put her in with them and she was just fine she stopped breathing hard and started eating with them and eating hay just like she was before but if you still think i need to get the nuflor i will contact my vet asap

| | Yes. A fever is a sign of infection requiring antibiotic treatment.

| | sometimes they wont eat much because they know they can just eat later. when you introduce competition for feed they will eat more and faster. I try to always have my sheep penned in pairs even though they are haltered so they can only have their own; they think that the other is going to get their feed. (you have to make them think it is survival of the fittest)

| | Did you just add the champion drive or was she on it when you got her?
I never feed ours together. If you can't sit there and watch them eat then you don't know who ate what. We pen ours separate. A hungry lamb will eat. This lamb is sick.
If you have only had it a week then it probably has shipping fever. Very normal, but doesn need treated. If we buy lambs they are usually given la 200 when they leave and another does when we make it home. It works well for us. Penecillin is cheap and la200 is cheap. Always have some on hand. Then you can give it to them while waiting for the vet. Nulor is something our area vets will not give to lambs. A lot of people on here use it per vets instructions. We don't have a lot of sheep vets here in our area unless we take the lamb there, not good to do to a sick lamb. But ours will usually give us nexel.spelling? It does a good job too.
Hope it feels better.

| | penecillin must be working. stick with that. I would back her off the champion drive and get her eating her normal food for at least 4-5 days then gradually add that back. I mean, 1 oz for 4 days, then 2oz at day 5. work her up to the amount you wish to give her. We feed honor show feeds too. When ever you bring a new sheep home try to keep is feed as close to what it was eating before you got it as possible for a good week. Their feed changes need to be very gradual.
Make sure she gets her hay too.

| | If she's sick, I wouldn't be taking her to a show. That's the very last thing she'd need.
